Our Approach to Copyright
We expect all content on ReadLearn to be original or properly licensed. Our Editorial Policy does not allow plagiarism, content spinning, or copying from other websites, and images and screenshots must be created by us, licensed, or used with permission. Even so, mistakes can happen, particularly with guest posts, comments, and third-party materials. When a copyright owner tells us about an issue, we take it seriously and act promptly.
Filing a DMCA Takedown Notice
If you believe that content on ReadLearn infringes your copyright, please send a written notice to our copyright contact (details below). To be valid under the DMCA, your notice must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed. If several works are covered, a representative list is acceptable.
- A description of the material you claim is infringing, with its exact location on our site, such as the full URL of the page.
- Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address, so we can contact you.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
Notices that are missing these elements may not be actionable, and we may ask you for more information before we take any step.

What Happens After We Receive a Notice
- Review. We check the notice for the required information and confirm that it identifies content on our site. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
- Removal. If the notice is valid, we will remove or disable access to the material that is claimed to be infringing.
- Notification. We will make a reasonable effort to tell the person who posted the content (an author, contributor, or commenter) that it has been removed and why. We may share a copy of your notice with them, including your contact details. Please keep this in mind before you submit.
- Counter-notice window. The person who posted the content may respond with a counter-notice, as explained below.
Filing a Counter-Notice
If content you posted was removed and you believe it was taken down by mistake or misidentification, or you have the right to use it, you may send us a counter-notice. It must include all of the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- A description of the removed material and the location where it appeared before it was removed.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief the material was removed because of a mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for the district where your address is located (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district where we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice or their agent.
When we receive a valid counter-notice, we will send a copy to the person who filed the original complaint and let them know we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days. We will restore it unless they notify us that they have filed a court action seeking an order to keep the material down.
Repeat Infringer Policy
ReadLearn will, in appropriate circumstances, disable or terminate the access of users who are found to be repeat infringers. This can include removing comments, ending a guest author’s contributor status, and blocking further submissions. We may also remove any content, at our sole discretion, if we believe it violates the rights of others, even without a formal notice.
False or Misleading Claims
Please think carefully before you submit a notice or counter-notice. Under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, anyone who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees. Before sending a notice, copyright owners should consider whether the use might be a lawful fair use, such as brief quotation with credit for commentary, criticism, or education.
Guest Posts, Comments & Third-Party Content
Guest authors and commenters confirm that what they submit is their own or that they have permission to use it, as described in our Terms & Conditions and on our Write for Us page. ReadLearn is not responsible for content on external websites we link to. If you have a copyright concern about another website, you should contact that site or its hosting provider directly.
Copyright Concerns Outside the DMCA
The DMCA is a United States law, but we welcome copyright concerns from anywhere in the world. If you are outside the U.S., or your concern doesn’t meet every DMCA requirement, you can still contact us with the URL, a description of your work, and proof of ownership. We will review it in good faith and may remove or correct the content where appropriate.
Not Legal Advice
This policy is provided for information only and is not legal advice. If you are unsure about your rights or obligations regarding copyright, please speak with a qualified attorney.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this DMCA Policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a DMCA takedown notice?
It is a formal written request from a copyright owner (or their representative) asking a website to remove content that infringes their copyright. It must include the details listed in this policy to be valid.
How long does it take to remove content?
We aim to review complete notices within 5 business days and to remove valid claims promptly after that. Incomplete notices can take longer because we may need more information from you.
Will the person who posted the content see my contact details?
Possibly. We may forward a copy of your notice to the person responsible for the content, and the DMCA counter-notice process also requires that your details be shared with them.
What if my content was removed but I think it was a mistake?
You can send us a counter-notice that includes all the required elements listed above. If it is valid, we will forward it to the complainant and may restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless they file a lawsuit.
Do I need to send a formal DMCA notice for a simple credit or attribution request?
No. If you just want a credit or a link added, or think an image was used in error, you can email us through our Contact page. Many issues can be resolved quickly without a formal notice.
Can I quote a short passage from another article?
Brief quotations with clear credit and a link to the original can be lawful fair use, but this depends on the situation. Our own content follows this rule: we paraphrase, quote briefly, and always link to the source.
